• VENICE, ITALY - 10 MAY 2017: Visitors are seen here relaxing at the Giardini during the 57th International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy, on May 10th 2017.

The 57th International Art Exhibition, titled VIVA ARTE VIVA and curated by Christine Macel, is organized by La Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta. "Viva Arte Viva is an exclamation, a passionate outcry for art and the state of the artist. Viva Arte Viva is a Biennale designed with artists, by artists and for artists, about the forms they propose, the questions they ask, the practices they develop and the ways of life they choose", Christine Macel says.

Rather than broaching a single theme, Viva Arte Viva offers a route that moulds the artists’ works and a context that favours access and understanding, generating connections, resonances and thoughts. VIVA ARTE VIVA will unfold over the course of nine chapters or families of artists, beginning with two introductory realms in the Central Pavilion, followed by another seven across the Arsenale through the Giardino delle Vergini. 120 are the invited artists from 51 countries; 103 of these are participating for the first time.

The Exhibition will also include 85 National Participations in the historic Pavilions at the Giardini, at the Arsenale and in the historic city centre of Venice. 3 countries will be participating for the first time: Antigua and Barbuda, Kiribati, Nigeria.57th International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy, on May 10th 2017.
• VENICE, ITALY - 4 JUNE 2016: The entrance to the central pavillon of the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale in Venice, Italy, on June 4th 2016.
The theme of the Biennale titles "Reporting from the Front", selected by 2016 director Alejandro Aravena, is an investigation into the role of architects in the battle to improve the living conditions for people all over the world. The theme aims to focus on architecture which works within the constraints presented by a lack of resources, and those designs which subvert the status quo to produce architecture for the common good - no matter how small the success.

 • VENICE, ITALY - 29 MAY 2013: (L-R) A woman arrives at the lower level of the Russian pavillon while a girl looks the bucket full of coins being lifted to the upper level, while a man on the right with the umbrella is told by the stewardess that men are not allowed in that part of the pavillon, at the Russian Pavillon, Giardini of the Biennale in Venice, Italy, on May 29th 20113.

Vadim Zakharov's Danae project has united the upper and lower storeys of the Pavillon in a single project for the first time in the building's long history, built in 1914. The theme of the installation turns around the ancient Greek myth of Danae. Vadim Zakharov states: "The installation has two points for viewing - from above and from below. Kneeling and looking down, we can grasp and feel that we are present at a unique process of materialization of the myth. Though the huge hole in the floow, we fall into another semantic and poetic space, into which golden coins fly from a pyramid ceiling. Below we see women with umbrellas, which protect them from being struck by the coins. The lower hall can only be visited by women. This is not about sexism but merely follows the logic of the anatomical construction of the myth. What is masculine can only fall inside from above, in the form of golden rain. The lower level of the Pavillon is "cave womb", keeping tranquility, knowledge, and memory intact.
• VENICE, ITALY - 30 MAY 2013: Fabio Mauri's
"Ideologia e Natura" (1973) -
performance - is here played by a young girl, dressed in an Italian Youth fascist uniform, repeatedly undreses and dresses, at the Italian Pavillon during its inauguration, at the Arsenale in Venice, Italy, on May 30th 2013.

The central nucleus of Fabio Mauri's artistic practice is characterized by interpreting, in experimental linguistic tones, the theme of ideology and the dialogue between man and History. Here, he re-proposes the performance Ideologia e natura (1973), in which a young girl, dressed in an Italian Youth fascist uniform repeatedly undresses and dresses. The performer, standing in front of a white cube, initially undresses in a logical order, first the hat, then the cloak and so on. Moving
slowly, with a cadenced rhythm, she continues to undress and re-dress, without any logical order. In the gradual advancement toward a true and symbolic nudity, we see the stripping away of every ideological convention and every reference to cultural and historical contingencies. Fabio Mauri reflects on the specific weight each individual body assumes within the great universal design of historical events, while the artistic action-intended as an aesthetic reading of History-denounces the absurdity of totalitarian ideology.

The Italian Pavilion presents vice versa, an ideal journey through Italian art of today,
an itinerary that tells of identities, history and landscapes - real and imaginary - exploring the complexity and layers that characterize the country's artistic vicissitudes. The Italian Pavillon is curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi,
who describes the exhibition as, ?A portrait of recent art, read as an atlas of themes and attitudes in dialogue with the historical legacy and current affairs, with both a local and international dimension. A cross-dialogue of correspondences, derivations and differences between acclaimed maestros and artists of later generations". The exhibition is

 • VENICE, ITALY - 11 MAY 2017: Artist Hadassa Goldvicht poses for a portrait by her installation "The House of Life" at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice, Italy, on May 11th 2017.

The House of Life, a poetic and expansive installation by
Hadassa Goldvicht, explores themes of historical memory; the threshold between life, death,
myth, and art; and the rapidly changing nature of Venice, via a multi-channel video work
installed at the Querini Stampalia in conjunction with the Venice Biennale. Presented by the
Israel Museum, Jerusalem, in collaboration with Meislin Projects, the exhibition follows
Aldo Izzo, the 86-year-old guardian and keeper of the Jewish cemeteries in Venice.

3 countries will be participating for the first time: Antigua and Barbuda, Kiribati, Nigeria.
