  • 2 August, 2008. New York, NY. Angel Ortiz, 41, a graffiti artist who collaborated with Keith Haring in the 80's, is here in front of the mural he tagged on July 22nd 2008. Angel Ortiz tagged his nickname "LA2", which refers to "Little Angel", on the Keith Haring mural that was reproduced on May 4th 2008, after the original 1982 graffiti was painted over. Angel Ortiz asked Clayton Patterson, an artist and gallerist, to help him tag the wall with his own artwork. Mr. Ortiz has accused the Haring Foundation of denying him credit on many of the jointly produced works.  The two artists met in 1980, when Angel Ortiz was 13 years old. Angel Ortiz, 41, is a graffiti artist who collaborated with Keith Haring in the 80's. The Keith Haring mural  was reproduced on May 4th 2008, after the original 1982 graffiti was painted over. Arguably Italy’s biggest prize in the war against looting antiquities, is a sixth-century B.C.E. red-figure krater, had been looted in 1971 from a Cerveteri tomb and sold a year later to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for $1 million, an unprecedented sum at that time. The Met relinquished the krater in 2006, and after a stint at the Villa Giulia, it is now a permanent addition to Cerveteri’s archaeological museum, along with a kylix or drinking cup also by Euphronius that the Getty Museum returned to Italy in 1999 after evidence emerged of its murky provenance.<br />
<br />
Rescued art is a broad term, it turns out, showcasing a myriad of ways in which artworks can be salvaged, from recovering artworks from the rubble of earthquakes and other national disasters, fishing for ancient shipwrecks in the Mediterranean, or restoring fragile masterpieces at the hands of Italy’s expert restorers.

Italian companies are deferring expansions and limiting investment rather than risking cash in a time of uncertainty. The public debt remains monumental, running at more than 2 trillion euro ($2.24 trillion), or more than 130 percent of annual economic output. Banks are still stuffed with bad loans — albeit fewer than before — making them reluctant to lend. An economy that has not expanded over the past decade is this year widely expected to again produce no growth.

“It is not an act of civil disobedience or conscientious objection, but the simple application of the constitutional rights that are guaranteed to all those who live in our country”, Leoluca Orlando said.

Mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando, together with the mayors of Naples, Florence and Parma, are rebelling against Interior Minister Matteo Salvini by refusing to implement the new controversial security law which reduces the rights of asylum seekers.<br />
The "Salvini decree", passed in November 2018 by the far-right government, removes humanitarian protection status – one of the three forms of asylum offered by Italy – which means thousands of people would no longer be entitled to state shelter.<br />
“It is not an act of civil disobedience or conscientious objection, but the simple application of the constitutional rights that are guaranteed to all those who live in our country”, Leoluca Orlando said.
