• ROME, ITALY - 15 JULY 2015: Boys play soccer in the garden of Villa Torlonia, Rome, Italy, on July 15th 2015.

Villa Torlonia is a villa and surrounding gardens formerly belonging to the Torlonia family, a Roman noble family who acquired a huge fortune in the 18th and 19th centuries through administering the finances of the Vatican. In 1925 the Villa was given to Mussolini as a residence, where he remained until 1943, with few changes to the aboveground structures. Between 1942 and 1943 an air-raid shelter was first built in the garden of the villa, and then a much larger and more complex airtight bunker was built under the villa itself, with the intention of resisting both aerial bombardment and chemical warfare.

Still today the trattoria is frequented the neighborhood’s older residents, many of whom have been loyal regulars for years, as well as younger locals and workers, who often stop by for a glass of wine. The menu varies from day to day, and is typically based on traditional Neapolitan recipes. Though some dishes, like meatballs, sausages, and friarielli (rapini, a type of broccoli typical to Naples), are always available.

Between January 2014 e December 2015 more than 120 tons of hashish, carried on fishing boats or cargo ships from Morocco to Libya, were seized in the Strait of Sicily by Italy’s Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) thanks to an international police investigation named “Operazione Libeccio”, carried out by the GICO (Gruppo Investigativo Criminalità Organizzata, Organised Crime Investigation Group), a unit of the tax police of Palermo under the supervision of the DDA (Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia) of Palermo.

“What is happening in Libya is same historical occurrence that happened years ago in Afghanistan. Such as the Talibans who financed their terroristic activities with heroin trafficking for the purchase of weapons, the Caliphate is proposing the same terroristic strategy by purchasing and commercialising hashish in order to purchase weapons used in their war” Sergio Barbera, Deputy General Prosecutor of Palermo, said.

 • PRAIANO, ITALY - 21 MAY 2016: Children play soccer by a "Don't play ball" sign in San Gennaro's square in Praiano, a town of the Amalfi Coast that is trying to position itself as an open-air museum, Italy, on May 21st 2016.

Over the previous three decades, Praiano had grown as part of the tourism boom of nearby Positano and the Amalfi Coast in general, but it had never developed its own identity or tried to shape its future. It is now trying to muscle in on the fame of better-known tourist drawn towns like Positano, Ravello and Amalfi, by positioning itself as an open-air museum. On Saturday, the town unveiled eight tourist itineraries, tracking the town’s traditional small religious shrine made of majolica tiles, augmented with the works of eight contemporary artists.

These shrines were built all over town to protect the Praianesi and their homes. The artists were asked to draw inspiration from the past or the local values and traditions and to revitalize and reinforce the concept of "street art" typical of the traditional shrines. The artists were also asked to create ceramic installations that would enhance and enrich the natural landscape. Their installations were not supposed to alter the nature and the local “people’s architecture”, but rather to enrich them in harmonious and elegant ways.

The Praiano NaturArte Project consists of eight art itineraries. Seven of them have ceramic works (ceramic is a traditional medium in the area) and are made by some of the best and most well-known artists in the area.

 • ROME, ITALY - 15 JULY 2015: Two young men play soccer in the Tournament Field of Villa Torlonia, Rome, Italy, on July 15th 2015.

 • HAL FAR, MALTA - JUNE 21: Immigrants play soccer at the Hangar Open Center in Hal Far (which translates as "Rat's Town") on June 21, 2011. The Hangar Open Center is a field with an ex-aircraft hangar which includes Swiss Red Cross tents in a dark, non lit space, and external containers. The conditions are very poor and the has inflamable oil on the floor.

The Open Centres in Malta serve as a temporary accomodation facility, but they ended becoming permanent accomodation centres, except for those immigrants who receive subsidiary protection or refugee status and that are sent to countries such as the United States, Germany, Poland, and others. All immigrants who enter in Malta illegally are detained. Upon arrival to Malta, irregular migrants and asylum seekers are sent to one of three dedicated immigration detention facilities. Once apprehended by the authorities, immigrants remain in detention even after they apply for refugee status. detention lasts as long as it takes for asylum claims to be determined. This usually takes months; asylum seekers often wait five to 10 months for their first interview with the Refugee Commissioner. Asylum seekers may be detained for up to 12 months: at this point, if their claim is still pending, they are released and transferred to an Open Center.
