• 27 February 2011. Medina, Malta. A detail of the front of the n.80 bus, seen from the inside, while the bus driver drives from Medina to Valletta. Many bus drivers in Malta are the owners of the buses they drive, and each bus is personalized according to the driver's taste. In this case the driver personalized his bus with a religous image of the Holy Mary, a clock having the shape of Australia with a kangaroo and the Sydney Opera House, two stickers of a flamingo and a Tyranosaurus Rex, and a Playboy sticker. Medina is a medieval town located in the centre of island, 8 miles from Valletta.
These buses, some of which are 60 years old, will be replaced in the following months by newer buses. There are approximately 500 buses in public transit service in Malta. The drivers themselves own most of the buses, but operate to a unified timetable set by the transport authority.
