A skete is a community of Christian hermits following a monastic rule, and depending from one of the 20 monasteries ruling Mount Athos. Mylopotamos, famous for its wine and the cuisine of chef monk Father Epiphanios, is the largest dependency of the Holy Monastery of Great Lavras.

A World Heritage Site and autonomous polity in the Hellenic Republic, Athos is home to 20 stavropegial Eastern Orthodox monasteries under the direct jurisdiction of the patriarch of Constantinople.
