Since the 1950s the Caudullo family has been processing and commercialising dried fruits, particularly pistachio nuts in the territory of Bronte, in the slopes of Mount Etna Sicily, Italy. The Caudullos own a dozen of hectares of land where pistachios are picked every two years, resulting in a production of an average of 2 tons of pistachio products after each harvest. Their company handles the desiccation, unshelling, peeling and optical selection of the semifinished and derivative pistachios. Such products are shelled pistachio nuts, unshelled pistachios, peeled pistachios, pistachios grain, pistachios flour and pistachios cream.
The Bronte pistachios, also known as the "green gold", are the most important economic resource of that area, and from 2009 they've been granted the DOP marque (Protected Designation of Origin), following the Slow Food movement.
