SLIEMA, MALTA - 28 AUGUST 2016: A boy walks by the “No War” graffiti by street artist “Twitch” (James Grimaud), depicting a crying child carrying a teddy bear that’s been shot in the head, under a overhanging footpath along the coast in Sliema, Malta, on August 28th 2016.

While many cities across the world denounce the defacing of a public property, on the Mediterranean island of Malta it is encouraged.

According to Sandra Borg of Arts Council Malta, street art projects “engage with numerous communities and contribute directly to urban regeneration”. Funding from Arts Council Malta, allows schools to offer additional creative arts subjects and many choose street art; with ‘NO WAR’ creator, James Grimaud, teaching students sketching, stencil making and aerosol use.
