• VENICE, ITALY - 29 MAY 2013: A young man peers through a small aperture inside one of the six large iron boxes to see the diaroma contained within, part of "S.A.C.R.E.D.", Ai Weiwei's new work shown at the Sant'Antonin's church in Venice, Italy, on May 29th 20113.

"S.A.C.R.E.D." (2013) is Ai Weiwei's new work addressing his 2011 arrest by the Chinese Government and the 81-day period subsequently spent in captivity. This is the first time the artist has directly responded to his incarceration through a work in a public exhibition. S.A.C.R.E.D. is composed of six parts: (i) S upper, (ii) A ccusers, (iii) C leansing, (iv) R itual, (v) E ntropy, and (vi) D oubt. This landmark work coprises six large iron boxes with small apertures - such as those found in the door of a cell - though which the viewer must peer to see the dioramas contained within. Each diorama includes large hyper-realist models of the artist and his captors, and documents the different stages of Ai Weiwei's time in incarceration.

• VENICE, ITALY - 28 MAY 2013: at the exhibition "Rudolf Stingel" at Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Italy, on May 28th 20113.

The exhibition "Rudolf Stingel" unfolds over the atrium and both upper floors of Palazzo Grassi, a space of over 5,000 square meters. For the first time, Palazzo Grassi devotes the entirety of its space to the work of a single artist. It includes a site-specific installation as well as recent creations and previously unseen paintings. This is Stingel's largest ever monographic presentation in Europe and his first solo exhibition in an Italian museum since his mid-career retrospective at MART in 2001.

The project, conceived by the artist expressly for Palazzo Grassi, spreads over all the rooms of the building, where a carpet with oriental patterns covers, for the first time, the entire surface of the walls and floors. The installation is part of Stingel's artistic research, which has always been directed towards the analysis of the relationship between the exhibition space and artistic intervention: for the artist, the carpet is a medium through which painting relates to its architectural context.
• VENICE, ITALY - 28 MAY 2013: Rudolf Stingel, Untitles, 2013 - Installation view at Palazzo Grassi (Pinault collection) in Venice, Italy, on May 28th 20113.

With "Music for Silence" the Toronto-based artist Shary Boyle explores ideas of silence, isolation and solutude. "Music for Silence" is a totale re-imagining of Canada's national space, merging imagination and folklore with humanistic, feminist and social concerns. "Music for Silence" showcases the exceptional level of hand-made craft signature to Boyle's practice, in which she works in a range of media including sculpture, drawing, painting and performance. She states: "In conceiving this installation, I thought a lot about the emotional entitlement we afford ourselves when we are moved by a song. I considered experiencing art as on would music; with trust in perception and intelligence of feeling. Each object is a note; building an arc and repeating; suggesting cycles and rythms.
